Pikachu

It’s Pikachu! Everybody knows Pikachu right? Easily the most famous Pokemon, Pikachu is essentially the mascot of the entire series. This adorable electric mouse is known and loved around the world and when most people think of Pokemon, Pikachu is the first thing that comes to mind.

This faceted/low-poly style papercraft model is a bit of a challenge to build but when finished is pretty spectacular to behold. At approximately 1/4 the size of a “real” Pikachu (based on the in-game Pokedex height), some of the features like the tail and hands require patience and care to assemble. However, there is a larger 1/2 size version available for those who find the 1/4 size version to be too difficult.

Tips:

  • Tweezers are highly recommended when working on the ears, tail, hands and feet.

  • Although it’s sturdier than you’d expect, be careful and gentle when handling the model once the tail has been attached.

  • When attaching the base to the feet, it may be easier and look better if you don’t glue the bevelled edges until the feet are glued on. By not glueing the bevels in place it will allow you to flatten the top of the base as you glue the base on and avoid any warping or wrinkles in the top of the base.

  • Making the bottom ring out of stiffer paper can make the bottom edge of the base stay flatter if there is any unsightly warping.
